Green News

With the eyes of the world upon them, trend-setting celebrities have a golden opportunity to lead the way in environmental awareness.

Famous jet-setters are often criticised for their extravagance, but some have used their celebrity status to promote eco-friendly lifestyle choices.

Scots singing star KT Tunstall's London flat is a showhome for environmental awareness.

Determined to do her bit to ease global warming, the 32-year-old musician put green issues at the top of her agenda when refurbishing her home.

Natural materials were used in making the property as energy-efficient as possible, while only the most eco-friendly heating and electrical appliances were selected.

Solar panels on the flat's roof help cut energy use even further, and even the paint used to decorate the walls is solvent-free and ultra-durable.

Clever taps and toilet fittings dramatically reduce water consumption, and KT is even using recycled furniture sourced second-hand from markets and junk shops.

"The benefits are obvious, said KT in an interview with The Guardian.

"It's great to know you're living in a house that's got such a high-efficiency rating.

"I think we're a B-rated flat. We were D before.

"To be A-rated, I think you've got to live in a hut made of mud!"

But who's the most A-rated A-list celeb?

Today's front-runner must be Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio, who's making a titanic effort to spread the word on green issues.
His own Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation actively promotes environmental awareness and was behind the production of Leo's feature length environmental documentary ‘The 11th Hour'.

He was also the first celeb to arrive at the Oscars in a hybrid car, and his website?

www.leonardodicaprio.org has a wealth of information on what we can do to follow in his green footsteps.
